Covenant Dance is the 14th track in the Halo: Original Soundtrack. It also appears, albeit slightly changed, as Choreographite in the Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary Original Soundtrack.

Appearances[]

It is most notably heard on the level Assault on the Control Room at the ending when you open the first gate and during fights with the Flood on Two Betrayals and The Maw. On Two Betrayals, it is seen when you encounter the first flood combat forms on the level. On The Maw, it's sometimes heard when the players is going up ramps in the engine room and encounters a big patch of flood. It is also heard on the level The Truth and Reconciliation, when you first enter the ship. This version is the drumbeat only, and contains none of the synth beats. It starts after about a minute, when more Covenant start pouring out to kill you and your Marines. It also makes an appearance in many Bungie Videos, most notably during the introduction of the Equipment feature in Halo 3.

Overview[]

As its name implies, the song is carried by a strong dance beat. At 00:16, the beat becomes underlaid to a more dominant snare-drum beat. Starting at 00:30, a variation of the Halo theme starts off with the monkish chorus in time to the beat. At 00:52, the beat and chant grind to a halt and are replaced by a less regular synth beat. At 01:08, a higher synth melody arises to follow the new synth beat. At 01:15, the drumbeat starts up again. At 01:31, the chant returns, but shortly disappears again. Soon after, the drum and synth follow it, allowing the song to smoothly conclude.

Trivia[]

  • The song can also be skipped on Two Betrayals, along with every song other than Rock Anthem For Saving The World at the beginning; if the player slides down the pyramid.
  • The song does not always play on The Maw.
