When the Great Schism broke out on November 3 2552, the entirety of the Sangheili species was forced out of the Covenant.[1] With the Prophet of Truth ordering the Covenant military, now led by the Jiralhanae, to massacare the Sangheili, the two became enraptured in conflict.

Several other species left the Covenant alongside the Sangheili and joined the newly formed Covenant Separatist movement. Most prominently among the followers were Unggoy and Mgalekgolo.
