The Covenant Separatists[1] were the forces composed of all the ejected Sangheili from the Great Schism, as well as their followers. When the Great Schism broke out on November 3 2552, the entirety of the Sangheili species were forced out of the Covenant.[2] When the High Prophet of Truth orderedthe Covenant military, now led by the Jiralhanae, to massacare the Sangheili, the two became enraptured in conflict.

Several other species left the Covenant alongside the Sangheili and joined the newly formed Covenant Separatist movement. Most prominently among the followers were Unggoy and Mgalekgolo.
