The Ruma-pattern light carrier or DDS-class light carrier[1] is a type of carrier ship within the Covenant Navy. It generally served as a support ship[1] and possesses a relatively light armament compare to other Covenant ship of similar size, although still highly dangerous to most UNSC ships.

Overview[]

Its primary role in a fleet is to dispatch strike fighters and troops, as it boasts three squadrons of Seraph fighters,[3] two hundred Banshees and thirty-four Spirits/Phantoms. These ships are carried in the DDS-class carriers thirteen launch bays.[4]

The Ruma-pattern light carrier is larger than the battlecruiser and much less common, it is likely used for supporting large numbers of warships and deploying troops.

There may be some dispute over the length of the DDS-class carrier, for example in Halo: Ghosts of Onyx, it mentions that the Incorruptible, a ORS-class heavy cruiser, which is 3000 meters long, took cover behind the Carrier Lawgiver. However, the Incorruptible merely took cover behind the other ship, using the Carrier's shields as a barrier to protect itself.
