Douglas-042 is a SPARTAN-II Commando of the UNSC Naval Special Warfare Command.[1] He was a member of Red Team and fought alongside the crew of the UNSC Spirit of Fire in early 2531.

History

Douglas was a member of Red Team during the Battle of Arcadia and was tasked with stopping the Covenant long enough to evacuate the civilians of Arcadia. Afterwards, he and Red Team linked up with forces from the Spirit of Fire and assisted in a counter-attack on a Covenant outpost. Once the plan to infiltrate a large Covenant shield was passed down from Captain James Cutter, he and Red Team remained with the crew to assist with the assignment. He prevented the destruction of several prototype Rhinos while they ensure the shield is destroyed.

After the capture of Professor Ellen Anders, he and Red Team traveled with the Spirit of Fire to a mysterious planet and assisted the Spirit of Fire crew in neutralizing Covenant and Flood forces. Once Douglas assisted in destroying a Proto-Gravemind, he and Red Team become stranded on the planet. With the Spirit of Fire being dragged down inside towards The Apex, Red Team was assisted by the forces of Sergeant John Forge and successfully withdrew to the ship. Red Team then assisted the crew in scouring the Flood forces from the hull of the Spirit of Fire and successfully repaired the power core when it was damaged.

Once Anders was rescued, Douglas assisted Red Team in capturing a Covenant Scarab and used it to help Forge capture the area. He is then tasked with ensuring the Spirit of Fire's Shaw-Fujikawa Translight Engine makes it to the teleporter. Douglas (with the Spirit of Fire crew) was then charged with opening the gate which allowed the Spirit of Fire to exit the Shield World.

Once the Spirit escaped the destruction of the planet and the crew was put in Cryo-Chamber, it is assumed that he does too.

Trivia

  • After a heated discussion with John Forge over 042's recommendation to destroy the Covenant vessel carrying Professor Anders, the two always have lunch in the mess hall together. [2]
  • In Halo Wars gameplay he uses a Rocket Launcher, but the weapon seems to be a different version from the 2552 versions, as this is because the Rocket Launcher during Douglas' time is noticeably bigger, and in gameplay after firing 3 Rockets, Douglas reloads the weapon.
  • He bears the Jolly Roger emblem on his right shoulder.
  • Douglas can be identified from the other Spartans from Red Team by the black outline markings on his helmet.
  • His spartan tag is a possible seven reference as 7x7-7=42. This is only 1 of 2 Spartans that have their tags as a multiple of 7.
  • Douglas is notably the most unique spartan unit. While Alice and Jerome are unique, both having unique voices (especially Alice as the only named female spartan in the game), Douglas is the only spartan (besides the Omega-team copys) to use a Rocket Launcher. In Skirmish a Spartan can get a Machine Gun (Alice's weapon of choice) and a Spartan Laser (Jerome's weapon) but they cannot get a rocket launcher. The upgrade for a rocket launcher may come sometime in the future as a DLC, though this is still unconfirmed.
  • Douglas' name and spartan tag is obviously a homage to Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy and its creator Douglas Adams.
  • Like Jerome-092 and Alice-130. Douglas-042 also has the Legendary symbol on his armors bicep.
