Eridanus II is a planet in the Paramount+ series, Halo. It was an outer colony planet by created by UNSC biologists, botanists, and geophysicist as part of a sanctioned project. A plague ultimately eliminated all human life.
Overview[]
Eridanus II was selected for experimental terraforming by Reach For Life pioneer group in 2440, but first permanent habitats were not laid down until 5.13.2497. A biomedical emergency was declared in the colony on 3.5.2530, with surviving researchers evacuated to Arcadia and New Jerusalem. UNSC and CMA records indicate counter-insurrection activity in the Eridanus system, but details are redacted. Colonial infrastructure was abandoned in-place, and recovery operations were canceled due to Covenant activity in proximal slipspace termini.[1]
History[]
Reach for Life[]
The planet was a select site for the Reach for Life project, where teams of UNSC biologists, botanists, and geophysicists designed and built the installation as a self-sustaining ecosystem. Their goal was to seed life on otherwise barren planets and hence extend the reach of humankind in the galaxy. The population did flourish and John was born on the planet to two parents and had a childhood dog. He often explored the forests, admired the ice rings that were visible from the surface, and walked in the caves. He also sketched images of artifacts and this eventually angered his father, who forced John to bury it in the backyard. When John was six, the Reach For Life was abruptly terminated after an unauthorized transport ship carried in a plague that spread quickly, killing off most of the population. The survivors were evacuated to Ehilend and the operational files for Reach for Life were lost after the project was abruptly terminated. In accordance with Emergency Contact Protocol Upsilon, the planet was sealed off to contain the virus.[2]
