“
That was a taste of our power, humans. If you want more, I'll be waiting.
”
— Decimus

War Chieftain Decimus is a War Chief within The Banished and Atriox's second in command.[1] He is well-known for his ruthlessness, bloodthirstiness, and extreme strength.

History[]

Covenant service[]

Decimus was once in the service of the Covenant military, fighting in the genocidal war against the Humans. At this time period, however, the Jiralhanae were not in high positions within the Covenant and were treated more like animals. They were expected to die in battle, with them being told that was the only way to gain a path on the Great Journey.

Forming the Banished[]

Decimus attended the execution of a fellow Jiralhanae, Atriox, when Atriox was accused of heresy. During the execution, however, Atriox defied the Covenant by killing his executioner. Decimus was inspired by his strength and rebelled against the Sangheili present, killing them using only his hands. When the fighting was over, Decimus kneeled before Atriox and pledged his loyalty to him. From then on, Decimus served as Atriox's right hand man within the newly formed Banished.

They eventually got the Enduring Conviction's shipmaster, Let 'Volir, to join the Banished, gaining them a way to travel in space. Decimus also went to check on a Kig-Yar scientist named Sig Raan. She showed him all her new technology, even her control over her Yanme'e. Decimus offered her a higher place within the Banished ranks. However, she turned against him and ordered her Yanme'e to open fire. Decimus fought against them until Sig Raan was killed by Atriox

The Ark[]

When the Banished arrived on The Ark in 2559 Decimus, on Atriox's orders, personally led a raid against the Henry Lamb Research Outpost and killed every human there. He was also charged with establishing a power system and salvaging wreckage from the leftovers of the Battle of Installation 00. He and Atriox discovered the Ark's portal systems and this allowed them to transport troops and supplies all around the Ark.

Four months later, the UNSC Spirit of Fire arrived on the Ark and they discovered what a threat the Banished posed to them. Captain James Cutter began a new War against the Banished. While Decimus was initially unaware of Human activity on the Installation, he soon found that they were going to attack a Banished outpost. He ordered Let 'Volir to blast the humans with the ship's energy projector. However, they pressed forward. Decimus later appeared in person to fight but was defeated in combat.

Death[]

Decimus was then assigned to protect the Ark's portal system, and the Humans began to attack the portal systems. Enraged by his earlier defeat, he appeared again in person and brought on a full attack from the Enduring Conviction's energy projector and his exoskeleton. However, the Humans were able to heavily damage his exoskeleton. Mortally wounded, Decimus fell to his knees and taunted the humans one last time before collapsing.

Personality[]

Decimus never thought to question the status quo until Atriox decided to break away from the Covenant religion in Halo Wars 2. He respects strength over everything else, and Atriox's continued successes earned Decimus' loyalty to him. He is known to be very ruthless, as he would kill his own troops if they displeased him, as said by certain Jiralhanae in Halo Wars 2. Despite breaking away from the Covenant's religion, Decimus still has some awe for Forerunner structures.

Decimus holds some resentment against the Sangheili due to how they treated the Jiralhanae during the Human-Covenant war. As one of Atriox's generals, he takes a cruel joy in ordering the Sangheili under his command to take part in perilous missions.[1]
