The Fist of Rukt is a Jiralhanae ceremonial Gravity Hammer exclusively used by the Chieftain of the Jiralhanae. It is regarded by the Brutes as a holy and ceremonial object passed down from Chieftain to Chieftain in the ruling clan.[1]

Centuries before the Human-Covenant War, when the Jiralhanae were exploring barely accessible spots of Doisac, a warband found ancient ruins that contained many rare and extremely durable metals. These metals were found around a large stone which would then become the head piece of the hammer.[1]

Rukt and the Great Civil War[]

For decades, it remained in the hands of roaming marauders, but it eventually found its way to the great Chieftain Rukt. Rukt started the Great Civil War which would later smash the space-faring Jiralhanae, and killed thousands with the Fist of Rukt and the rest of his clan.[1]

The Covenant[]

As treasured heirloom of the clan, it was then brought with the many packs who would be on the side of the Covenant. It was eventually passed down to Maccabeus, an influential leader at the time, who added to its legacy by putting down anyone who challenged his command.[1] The Fist of Rukt was passed down from Chieftain Maccabeus to his nephew Tartarus after Tartarus defeated him in battle.[2]

After the Arbiter and Johnson killed Tartarus in the Control Room of Installation 05, the Fist of Rukt fell from his hands.

  • Gravity Hammers usable by players in later Halo games are inspired by the Fist of Rukt and were originally going to share an even more similar appearance than the final outcome.[3]
  • In Halo 3, if you charge at Grunts with a Gravity Hammer, they will occasionally yell, "Oh no, the Fist of Rukt!" or, "He still wields the Fist of Rukt!" In their sleep, a Grunt will say, "Rukt...Fist...Merry Christmas" and "Fist of Rukt." The Final Grunt says he has the Fist of Rukt.
  • In Halo: Contact Harvest, the Fist of Rukt was described as weighing at least as much as Staff Sergeant Nolan Byrne, who was an enormous man by himself.
  • Wizkids released a figure of Master Chief wielding the Fist of Rukt.
