The Gravity Rifle is a deleted weapon in Halo: Combat Evolved.
Summary
The Gravity Rifle was going to be a Covenant Sniper Rifle, but Bungie decided to delete it, like they did with the Engineer. However, the model is still within the game's code, but was never made a proper texture, first person mode and projectile.
Halo: Custom Edition
Though the weapon was deleted from the game, the code still exists within the game's code, and is possible to use in Halo: Custom Edition in certain maps using the devmode command cheat_all_weapons.
There is no animation for it being fired, but it will create a bright flash when shot. It's similar to the flamethrower, except it only starts a fire when you point it at a solid object.
Despite having no reticule or scope, the weapon is extremely accurate. Also, it has unlimited ammunition, due to it not having a set clip or magazine.
Trivia
- If you go to pick it up, the screen will say "Press E To pick up <need string entry here>". This is due to it not having a string entry.
- When viewed in first person mode, there will appear to be nothing on the screen.
- The Gravity Rifle is similar to the flame thrower, but the fire takes about a second to start.

Deleted Material
Gravity Rifle is part of the Deleted Material cut from the Halo Franchise.
When developing Halo: Combat Evolved, Bungie faced numerous prototypes during the pre-production and considered cutting down to a certain number of objects for the final bit of Halo: Combat Evolved.
As such, many aspects of the story such as vehicles, gameplay, design, and story elements didn't make it into the final version of Halo: Combat Evolved.
