'''''Halo 4''''' is the upcoming, and eighth, instalment of the best-selling ''[[Halo]]'' franchise. The game was developed by [[343 Industries]], a Microsoft owned internal development studio established for the purpose of creating new properties for the ''Halo'' series. The game is set four years after the events ''Halo 3'' in [[2557]], and will follow the main protagonist [[Master Chief]] as he explores the uncharted shield world called [[Requiem]]. Here the hero will discover new enemies, experience the return of the [[Covenant]], and will discover more of the [[Forerunner]]s tainted history.
The game is scheduled to be released on November 6, [[2012]], following the release of ''[[Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary]]'' on November 15, [[2011]].

Details on ''Halo 4'' were further expanded on in the 2012 E3 Expo where Microsoft's E3 press conference revealed more about ''Halo 4's'' game-play. It was here where the new enemies were revealed to be [[Promethean]] [[Artificial intelligence|AI]]s , and the return of the Covenant was officially confirmed. Several minutes of game-play and multiple preview clips of the campaign was shown before the trailer ended with a cryptic message from an "unknown evil".

Information on ''Halo 4's'' campaign has purposefully been kept to a minimum for the purpose of maintaining high anticipation for the game. A video released by 343 Industries revealed some of the multiplayer of Halo 4.<ref>[[Halo 4 ViDoc: Making Halo 4|'''Halo 4 ViDoc''' - ''Making Halo 4'']]</ref>

The maps to be featured in Halo 4 will not be based upon campaign levels but will be designed from the ground-up with competitive gameplay in mind instead.

Gameplay will feature something that resembles a perk system<ref name="3.07.12"/> and some [[Armor Abilities|armor abilities]] will return, though in a slightly different way.<ref name="3.07.12"/> 343 Industries has also confirmed that multiplayer gameplay will be linked to in-game fiction; [[Multiplayer#Halo_4|War Games]] being vast simulated training grounds for [[SPARTAN-IV Program|Spartan-IVs]] as part of their preparation for [[Spartan Ops]], missions which take place 6 months after the conclusion of the campaign.<ref name="3.07.12"/>

''Halo 4's'' multiplayer capabilities have been explored extensively in the gradual build up to it's release on November 6th. Unlike previous games, multiplayer maps featured in Halo 4 will not be based upon campaign levels, but instead be designed from the ground-up with competitive gameplay in mind. Gameplay will now feature customizable load-outs which somewhat resemble a perk system, and see the return of old and new armor abilities<ref name="3.07.12">[http://www.halowaypoint.com '''Halo Waypoint'''] - [http://blogs.halowaypoint.com/Headlines/post/2012/03/08/The-Halo-Bulletin-30712.aspx ''The Halo Bulletin: 3.07.12''].</ref>

====War Games===={{Main|War Games}}
Recently broadcasted gameplay from MLG and RTX revealed much about the multiplayer aspect of ''Halo 4''. The Battle Rifle was one of the first weapons confirmed, with its counterpart the DMR revealed later. The Covenant Carbine will also return, supplanting the Needle Rifle introduced in ''Halo: Reach''. A number of new weapons have been disclosed, though this number will undoubtedly rise before the game is launched.

  +
To link online multiplayer matchmaking to in-game fiction it has now been coined [[War Games]] by 343 Industries; with War Games being vast simulated training grounds for [[SPARTAN-IV Program|SPARTAN-IV]]s as part of their preparation for [[Spartan Ops]] missions, which take place 6 months after the conclusion of the campaign<ref name="3.07.12"/>. These simulations will be hosted inside the {{UNSCShip|Infinity}} and will allow individuals to take control of virtual SPARTAN-IV characters and battle in a realistic but safe online environments.

  +
====Customization====
Similar to [[SPARTAN-III Program|SPARTAN-IIIs]] in ''Halo: Reach'', in ''Halo 4's'' multiplayer now called "War Games", the player takes control of [[SPARTAN-IV Program|SPARTAN-IVs]], and armor customization has been confirmed from gameplay, which revealed the large scale of artistic variety between the armor variants. Additionally, the return of gender customization has been confirmed.{{fact}} Unlike previous Halo instalments, the Red and Blue teams will have a legitimate reason for fighting each other. The {{UNSCShip|Infinity}} contains a highly advanced simulator where SPARTAN-IVs fight against each other in unique environments to keep them constantly battle-ready.<ref name="Now Gamer">[http://www.nowgamer.com/news/1314473/halo_4_multiplayer_details_explain_infinity_perks_spartan_points_spartan_ops.html '''Now Gamer''' - ''Multiplayer Details Explain Infinity, Perks, Spartan Points, Spartan Ops'']</ref> A greater degree of team customization is present in Halo 4: MLG gameplay footage featured Team Demon and Team Fury bearing a wolf and unicorn emblem respectively.

  +
Players will also be able to edit their SPARTAN-IV characters with a variety of different armors, and also be able to swap genders with the return of gender customization. In addition to this players will have access to [[Specializations]], a set of ten unique armor enhancements which bring combat benefits to players who use them, such as increased vehicle handling or resistance to EMP blasts<ref>[http://ign.com/ '''IGN'''] - [http://ign.com/articles/2012/08/15/halo-4-specializations-will-change-halo-multiplayer-forever ''Halo 4 Specializations Will Change Halo Multiplayer Forever'']</ref>.
===Other Matchmaking Changes===

Additional changes to the multiplayer from ''Halo: Reach'' include a modified score tracking system, with kills now confirmed to be worth 10 "points", with multiplayer games now going up to as much as 600 points. Points can also be earned for assist, killing sprees, and even distracting the enemy. The health bar from ''Halo: Reach'' has been removed, possibly indicating the removal of health packs. The Motion Tracker has been confirmed to be "three dimensional", and differentiates enemies and friendlies on radar based on their elevation. Overall, the HUD looks closer to Halo 3 HUD.

  +
A major addition to the customization of characters in ''Halo 4'' is the new custom loadouts, allowing players to edit their loadout before games to a much greater degree than that in ''[[Halo: Reach]]''. As a player progresses through the game, ranking up online, they will be able to unlock loadout slots allowing them to choose the weapons and abilities they start with on game start.
The most important thing that was changed is custom loadouts. Instead of giving the player loadout choices that are pre-selected a la Halo: Reach, the player can customize their own personal loadouts to a far greater degree, allowing the player to tune and tweak their loadouts according to their preferred playstyle. There are 5 custom loadouts which need to be unlocked by ranking up.[[File:Halo-4-Multiplayer-Loadouts-Leaked.jpg|thumb|360px|Customizable loadouts!]]

====Ordanance Drops===={{Main|Ordnance (Multiplayer)}}
A new key feature is "Infinity Ordnance" that drops anywhere on the map. Power weapons no longer have a set spawn: instead, they can spawn anywhere on the map. For example, a sniper rifle that was previously leaning on the wall may spawn elsewhere after pickup or respawn as a rocket launcher. The main goal is to discourage camping near power weapon spawns and encourage fluid, dynamic gameplay instead of concentrated hotspots and killzones.

  +
To encourage dynamic movement of games and prevent players camping at weapon re-spawn points, ''Halo 4'' will now accommodate random ordnance drops in matches. This feature is available as either ''"Infinity Ordnance"'', where weapons, grenades, or power-ups are dropped on to the map for all to use randomly throughout the game, or ''"Personal Ordnance"'', where a choice of personal power ups can be earned by a player, via performance during a game, and dropped onto the map.
Another feature is "Personal Ordnance" which is similar to the Infinity Ordnance but is influenced by individual player performance. By earning medals, players fill up a personal meter. These medals can be earned by completing various tasks like getting kills, performing support tasks like capturing/defending the objective, and getting kill assists/distractions. Once the Personal Ordnance meter is full, a player can call in Personal Ordnance on his location. Unlike Infinity Ordnance which drops either weapons or grenades, Personal Ordnance gives the player three choices: a power weapon, grenades and a powerup. There are three power ups: the Over Shield, a Damage Boost and a Speed Boost (which also decreases the time taken to reload). The only drawback of Personal Ordnance is that the requirements for your second or third one in the same game are bumped to 30% for each successive ordnance you call in.

  +
====Game Types===={{Main|:Category:Halo 4 Multiplayer Game Types}}
Unlike previous Halo games, when a player gets a [[Killing Spree]] or a [[Headshot]], the words will appear in the middle of the screen in small white text under to the reticule, as opposed to near the killfeed. A video of this was shown [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GflJB-aM0wI here].

  +
Along with the announcement of War Games and it's included features, several returning and new game types were announced. Game types, confirmed by 343 Industries, that will feature in ''Halo 4's'' multiplayer have been listed:
Capture The Flag and Oddball will return to Halo 4.<ref name="Halo 4 News">[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HefZCdHeU30 '''Youtube''' - ''Halo 4 News: "Big News", Flood, & Modes! - FT.Chris'']</ref> 343 stated that "Old/Classic gametypes will feel fresh". ''Halo'' Multiplayer will return with its max player count in one game at 16. 343 says that they "want Halo 4 to be really fast-paced".

==Spartan Ops==

{{Main|Spartan Ops}}

In a Game Informer article, [[343 Industries|343i]] announced that [[Firefight]] will not be included in ''Halo 4.'' Instead, Firefight will be replaced by a new game mode called Spartan Ops, which is a episodic co-op series following the missions of the [[SPARTAN-IV Program|SPARTAN-IVs]] and the UNSC ''Infinity''. 343i has said that there will be new missions uploaded to ''Halo Waypoint'' on a weekly basis and fans will not have to pay for them, unlike other DLC (at least for the first season, consisting of 50 missions). Spartan Ops will also feature difficulty changes and four-player co-op. Spartan Ops and matchmaking will directly tie into each other.

  +
Similarly to the ''Halo 4'' game types, all of the maps that will feature in Halo 4 have now been announced, including future map pack releases! 343 Industries have confirmed that ''Halo 4'' will have ten ''core'' Multiplayer Maps<ref>[http://www.ign.com/wikis/halo-4/Abandon '''IGN''' - ''Abandon'']</ref> available to all upon release, and throughout the six months following the release, three confirmed map packs will steadily be released one by one available for download to help improve the ''Halo 4'' online experience.<ref name="10.25.12">[http://www.halowaypoint.com/ '''Halo Waypoint'''] - [http://blogs.halowaypoint.com/Headlines/post/2012/10/25/The-Halo-Bulletin-102512-.aspx ''The Halo Bulletin: 10.25.12'']</ref>
343i has said that while it is recommended to play with others, Spartan Ops can be played alone as well.

With the announcement that [[Firefight]] will not be included in ''Halo 4's'' gameplay, 343 Industries announced that to replace the loss of this feature, a new episodic co-op series will be introduced called ''"Spartan Ops"''. Spartan Ops will feature weekly releases of missions on Halo Waypoint that will be free to download, and will follow the story of SPARTAN-IVs as they complete vital missions on [[Requiem]], six months after the conclusion of the campaign<ref name="3.07.12"/>. Three seasons have been announced, with the first season containing 50 missions.

==Awakening==

[[File:Halo-4-trailer.jpg|thumb|290px|The climax of the teaser trailer.]]

In the teaser, [[John-117]], asleep in his [[cryo-chamber]], awakens as [[Cortana]] shouts for him to wake up. Although slow to wake from his stasis (as is normal for cryo-sleep), the Chief energetically snaps into action. He gets out of the tube and approaches Cortana, reassuring her that he is awake and present. An explosion reverberates through the hull, cutting their brief reunion short and alerting John to the danger of the situation. With little time to lose, he transfers Cortana to her [[Data crystal chip|data chip]] and exits the room, drifting weightlessly through the disintegrating interior of the {{UNSCShip|Forward Unto Dawn}} with the aid of a [[thruster pack]]. As he maneuvers through the debris-filled corridor, he grabs a [[M363 Remote Projectile Detonator]] that fires off single-use explosive projectiles. He uses the weapon to blast open an opening in the aft section of the ship. Exiting through the torn section, John prepares to face whatever warranted his awakening, as the ''Dawn'' approaches [[Requiem]] with a massive portal on the surface of the shield world opening.

John's armor has taken on several aesthetic changes. The details have been increased and the look and feel has changed, although still remaining similar to the ''Halo 3'' [[MJOLNIR Powered Assault Armor/Mark VI|Mark VI armor]]. This is probably because 343 Industries didn't want to stray too far from the original armor of ''Halo 2'' and ''Halo 3''. Though the same, the armor looks a little different (in the teaser-trailer). The shoulder-pieces appear to be different from the original Mark VI version in ''Halo 2'' and ''Halo 3''. 343 Industries said there's an actual story reason for the armor change.[[File:Ancient Evil Awakens.png|thumb|346px|'An Ancient Evil Awakens'.]]

An "ancient evil" was stated to be the enemy in Halo 4 at E3 2012. This ancient evil was revealed as [[Promethean]]s at E3. In addition, the symbol in the background appeared to be the symbol for the [[Didact]] (a powerful Promethean) and possibly the Didact's voice in the background saying, "I have long dreamt of this day, Reclaimer". Which would make him the main antagonist of the game. This is assumed because the symbol closely resembles the Forerunner symbol for the Didact.

A video was released at Halo Fest showcasing concept art of a humanoid creature. What this creature may be has yet to be revealed. Many fans at first thought the creature to be a [[Precursor]]. The flashing images of the creature had major similarities to a Precursor. But now it is believed to be concept art of the [[Promethean Knight]]. But it has yet to be revealed.

In ''Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary'', during one of the [[Terminal]]s, 343 briefly talks about the [[Didact]]'s plan in case the Halo rings did not succeed. This could have some indication to the Forerunner planet at the end of ''Halo 3''. However, this could also be referring to the Shield Installations, since the Didact campaigned the use of Shield Worlds as opposed to the Halo Array.

Preview photos of [[Unggoy|Grunts]] wearing much less armor than in previous ''Halo'' games were shown in one of [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9rs6WAKRp3g IGDaily's YouTube videos]. These Grunts seem to not be wearing their masks, but they do have their methane tanks present on their backs. There is a strange tube connect from the left sides of their heads and to their left eyes on their helmets. They look similar to the ''Halo 2'' Grunt picture with the alien maskless, showing its sharp teeth. These pictures depict Grunts more as vicious creatures, rather than minor alien infantry that run away when their [[Grunt Squad|squad leader]] dies in battle.

===Forge==={{Main|Forge}}
''Halo 4'' marks the return of John-117 as a playable protagonist after three Halo games focusing on different sets of characters. Having been lost in space in the finale of ''Halo 3'', John-117 and Cortana, adrift aboard the wreckage of the {{Class|Charon|light frigate}} {{UNSCShip|Forward Unto Dawn}}, find themselves near a mysterious planet first seen in the Legendary ending of ''Halo 3''. It has been confirmed that there is 8 missions in the campaign.

  +
Forge will be returning in ''Halo 4'' with vast improvements to that of ''Halo: Reach's'' forge mode. Included in these improvements will be dynamic lighting, to create more realistic forged environments, more forge items, magnetic linking of objects, to ease attachment of objects, and three forge maps, each with a different terrain and forge pallets<ref>[http://uk.gamespot.com/ '''GameSpot'''] - [http://uk.gamespot.com/halo-4/videos/exclusive-halo-4-forge-mode-details-6397629/?tag=Topslot;ExclusiveHalo4ForgeModeDetails;ExclusiveHalo4ForgeMo ''Exclusive Halo 4 Forge Mode Details'']</ref>.
It has been noted that the ''[[Forerunner Saga]]'' novel ''[[Halo: Primordium]]'', the post-war novel ''[[Halo: Glasslands]]'',<ref>[http://halo.xbox.com/Content/assets/en-us/Podcast/343Sparkast_005.mp3 '''Halo Waypoint''' - ''343 Sparkast 005'']</ref> as well as the terminals in ''Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary'', will "definitely" have "resonant connections" to ''Halo 4''<nowiki>'</nowiki>s story.<ref>[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TNDQN7nwZlw '''HaloWaypoint''' - ''SDCC 2011: Halo Universe Panel Part 1'']</ref>

These three forge world maps will be available upon release:
It was confirmed the game would take place in "[[2557]] . Four years, seven months and ten days"<ref name="Game Informer"/> since the end of [[Halo 3]].

*[[Ravine]]<ref name="10.25.12"/>
According to Machina Respawn's E3 2012 Video about ''Halo 4'', the UNSC Infinity isn't part of the campaign in the first few missions. They also stated that "Master Chief has been living in a hut" while on the first days of being on the new planet.

  +
*[[Impact]]<ref name="10.25.12"/>

  +
*[[Erosion]]<ref name="10.25.12"/>
An enhancement to the game is a much longer campaign than the traditional length of most Halo campaigns. The average length of a Halo campaign is about 8 to 10 hours, more if the difficulty is set to Heroic or Legendary.{{Citation needed}}

According to the ''Halo 4'' article in Game Informer magazine, the game starts off with the Master Chief and Cortana in the remains of the UNSC ''Forward Unto Dawn'' in 2557, with Cortana stating she's updated the MJOLNIR suit's firmware while the Master Chief was unconscious, apparent from the new HUD. Intruders are detected on multiple decks, which are identified through flying through an elevator shaft and making the way to the observation deck 4 floors up as Covenant. Firstly, the Master Chief is attacked by an Energy sword wielding Elite, to which he comments "I thought we had a truce with the Covenant", then encounters Grunts and Elites as he continues towards the observation deck. Cortana points out that the hostiles "aren't outfitted like standard military" and could be rogue. Some Elites, for example, have no armor on their arms, as some Grunts lack methane masks on their face, but rather a tube into their noses. The ship is then boarded by more landing craft and eventually the pair crash land on [[Requiem]] (a.k.a. the Legendary Planet).<ref name="Game Informer">[http://www.gameinformer.com '''Game Informer''' - ''Issue May 2012'']</ref>

Not much is known about what happens to Master Chief after he lands. At E3 2012, part of the campaign is revealed. The {{UNSCShip|Infinity}} can be seen crash landing on Requiem. Master Chief then heads toward the crash site of the Infinity. However, he is momentarily stopped when he feels something behind him, and grabbing his assault rifle, spins around to aim at [[Cryptum (Halo 4)|a massive sphere]] which scans the area in front of it, where the Chief is standing, before heading towards the crash location of the Infinity. Multiple Covenant Phantoms and Banshees can be also seen heading toward the crashed ship. As the Master Chief finds a path down to the ship he encounters a covenant scout team, two Grunts, a Jackal, and an Elite. After confronting them the Chief continues on his path to the Infinity. During the fight, it is evident that there are hitmarkers in the game. The Master Chief is then attacked by [[Promethean Crawler|unknown hostile forces]]. Cortana states that "These things are some type of defense AI's, definitely ''not'' Covenant!" There seems to be various types of "AI's" that the Master Chief encounters. [[Promethean Knight|One version]] seems able to utilize [[Slipspace]] technology to teleport to different locations. [[Promethean Watcher|Others]] have the ability to fling grenades back at their throwers and deploy [[Z-90 Photonic Coalescence Emitter/Aegis|shields]], and one of them looks very similar to a holographic skeleton in a suit of armor. The Chief ends up being stopped by Cortana, who switches the '[[Z-5080 Short-Range Spectrum Augmenter/Vision|Visor Mode]]'. This ends up with chief being able to see enemies in red, similar to [[Halo 3: ODST]]'s VISR. However, the ability to see through walls and floors is evident, perhaps indicating this to be the new [[Promethean Vision]]. The hostiles keep on appearing until one appears right in front of the Chief and knocks him out.

Before and after the Campaign Demo, there are different live action and CGI scenes. Before the demo is a scene which features a high ranking UNSC navy officer explaining the UNSC Infinity, and then switching scenes to show the Infinity being attacked and somehow scanned by the same orange light as seen with the sphere the Master Chief encountered. The Captain, whose name tag indicates him to be Captain Andrew Del Rio (Mentioned in Halo: Glasslands), is shown to be calling for help as the ship falls into Requiem.

After the demo, there are numerous CGI scenes showing Cortana's rampancy, and probably the Spartan 4's, along with a new vehicle which looks very similar to the ''Halo 3'' [[Elephant]]. There is also a scene which depicts the Didact's symbol, with the words "An Ancient Evil Awakens", and a dark voice on the background stating: 'I have long dreamt of this day, Reclaimer'. Whether this confirms that the Didact is the main antagonist is unknown.

==Forward Unto Dawn==

{{Main|Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn}}

''Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn'' is a live-action webseries that will debut on October 5, 2012, and continue until the release of ''Halo 4'' on [[2012|November 6th, 2012]].

Aside from marketing ''Halo 4'', the goal of the webseries is to introduce the franchise to people unfamiliar with the games. 343 Industries franchise business management director, Matt McCloskey, said to Variety: "make ''Halo'' accessible for people who haven't played the games."

“Wake up, John.”
— Official tagline

Halo 4 is the upcoming, and eighth, instalment of the best-selling Halo franchise. The game was developed by 343 Industries, a Microsoft owned internal development studio established for the purpose of creating new properties for the Halo series. Halo 4 is the first of three games in the Reclaimer trilogy, and is a direct sequel to Halo 3.[6]

The game is set four years after the events Halo 3 in 2557, and will follow the main protagonist Master Chief as he explores the uncharted shield world called Requiem. Here the hero will discover new enemies, experience the return of the Covenant, and will discover more of the Forerunners tainted history.

Halo 4 is scheduled for release on November 6th 2012[1][2][3] in all countries except Japan where it will be released on November 8, 2012[7]. As of September 26, 2012, Halo 4 has "gone gold"[8], meaning all development of the game has been completed and mass manufacturing of the game has begun[9].

Announcement

E3 Expo 2011

Main article: Awakening

Halo 4 was first revealed on Microsoft's homepage hours before the start of their E3 press conference[10], along side Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary due to a mistake by the editing department. The game was then officially announced at the end of Microsoft's E3 2011 press conference[11][12] with a short teaser trailer entitled "Awakening".

E3 Expo 2012

Details on Halo 4 were further expanded on in the 2012 E3 Expo where Microsoft's E3 press conference revealed more about Halo 4's game-play. It was here where the new enemies were revealed to be Promethean AIs , and the return of the Covenant was officially confirmed. Several minutes of game-play and multiple preview clips of the campaign was shown before the trailer ended with a cryptic message from an "unknown evil".

Game-play

Campaign

Information on Halo 4's campaign has purposefully been kept to a minimum for the purpose of maintaining high anticipation for the game. In the August 22nd Halo bulletin on Halo Waypoint it was confirmed that there would be eight campaign missions alongside all the achievements available in Halo 4[13]. All known missions including their chronological order and names have now been announced by 343 Industries.

Known Missions in the Campaign

Multiplayer

Halo 4's multiplayer capabilities have been explored extensively in the gradual build up to it's release on November 6th. Unlike previous games, multiplayer maps featured in Halo 4 will not be based upon campaign levels, but instead be designed from the ground-up with competitive gameplay in mind. Gameplay will now feature customizable load-outs which somewhat resemble a perk system, and see the return of old and new armor abilities[14]

War Games

Main article: War Games

To link online multiplayer matchmaking to in-game fiction it has now been coined War Games by 343 Industries; with War Games being vast simulated training grounds for SPARTAN-IVs as part of their preparation for Spartan Ops missions, which take place 6 months after the conclusion of the campaign[14]. These simulations will be hosted inside the UNSC Infinity and will allow individuals to take control of virtual SPARTAN-IV characters and battle in a realistic but safe online environments.

Customization

Players will also be able to edit their SPARTAN-IV characters with a variety of different armors, and also be able to swap genders with the return of gender customization. In addition to this players will have access to Specializations, a set of ten unique armor enhancements which bring combat benefits to players who use them, such as increased vehicle handling or resistance to EMP blasts[15].

A major addition to the customization of characters in Halo 4 is the new custom loadouts, allowing players to edit their loadout before games to a much greater degree than that in Halo: Reach. As a player progresses through the game, ranking up online, they will be able to unlock loadout slots allowing them to choose the weapons and abilities they start with on game start.

Customizable loadouts:

Ordanance Drops

Main article: Ordnance (Multiplayer)

To encourage dynamic movement of games and prevent players camping at weapon re-spawn points, Halo 4 will now accommodate random ordnance drops in matches. This feature is available as either "Infinity Ordnance", where weapons, grenades, or power-ups are dropped on to the map for all to use randomly throughout the game, or "Personal Ordnance", where a choice of personal power ups can be earned by a player, via performance during a game, and dropped onto the map.

Game Types

Main article: :Category:Halo 4 Multiplayer Game Types

Along with the announcement of War Games and it's included features, several returning and new game types were announced. Game types, confirmed by 343 Industries, that will feature in Halo 4's multiplayer have been listed:

Multiplayer Maps

Main article: :Category:Halo 4 Multiplayer Maps

Similarly to the Halo 4 game types, all of the maps that will feature in Halo 4 have now been announced, including future map pack releases! 343 Industries have confirmed that Halo 4 will have ten core Multiplayer Maps[19] available to all upon release, and throughout the six months following the release, three confirmed map packs will steadily be released one by one available for download to help improve the Halo 4 online experience.[20]

Maps on release:

Map Packs:

Spartan Ops

Main article: Spartan Ops

With the announcement that Firefight will not be included in Halo 4's gameplay, 343 Industries announced that to replace the loss of this feature, a new episodic co-op series will be introduced called "Spartan Ops". Spartan Ops will feature weekly releases of missions on Halo Waypoint that will be free to download, and will follow the story of SPARTAN-IVs as they complete vital missions on Requiem, six months after the conclusion of the campaign[14]. Three seasons have been announced, with the first season containing 50 missions.

Forge

Main article: Forge

Forge will be returning in Halo 4 with vast improvements to that of Halo: Reach's forge mode. Included in these improvements will be dynamic lighting, to create more realistic forged environments, more forge items, magnetic linking of objects, to ease attachment of objects, and three forge maps, each with a different terrain and forge pallets[21].

These three forge world maps will be available upon release:
