Request for Adminship: Blemo
Submitted: April 7th, 2008, by CommanderTony
Result: Ongoing

Blemo would like to remind everyone that this RfA is not a "popularity vote", but rather a "vote for the good of the community". Please do not vote only because you either know me, or are just friends with me. Thank you. --General Blemo Progress Wheel TALK CONTRIBUTIONSEMAILMESSAGE 04:19, 11 April 2008 (UTC)

Nomination

I, CommanderTony, nominate Blemo for adminship of Halopedia.
Nominee, please accept or defer the above nomination below this line.

I, Blemo, gladly accept this nomination with full confidence. --File:Lieutenant General.jpg Blemo Progress Wheel TALK CONTRIBUTIONSEMAILMESSAGE 04:46, 7 April 2008 (UTC)

Reason for Nomination

Blemo has shown that he can do outstanding and great work for Halopedia and it's members. He is also a very popular Halopedian who seems to enjoy socializing with fellow Veteran Halopedians, and Junior members alike. I think he can be both an asset to the Administration and Halopedia.

Not to mention that I feel that Blemo and CommanderTony coordinating together could do wonders for Halopedia and its culture. Pryo' Zarkum 03:58, 7 April 2008 (UTC)

Support Support -- I will support my friend. He's been in Halopedia long enough and I have seen him made contributions that even some of the admins are pleased. Dark Neptune 04:04, 7 April 2008 (UTC)

Support Support Blemo is an extremely active Halopedian. He has done many great deeds and contributions that heavily impact our community and he is very friendly to all. Many of us wouldn't know what to do without him. Granting him "a few more buttons" would be an excellent choice. 343GS 343 GuiltySpark Wiki UserpageTalk PageContributions 00:26, 8 April 2008 (UTC)

Support Support - Blemo has contributed a lot. 1,000 of anything is a lot. 1,000 grains of sand, 1,000 dollars, 1,000 hamburgers, 1,000 people, 1,000 dimes, and so on, is a lot. He's made 1,700 edits to the mainspace. 1,700 is almost twice of 1,000, so it is even more. From what I can tell, Blemo wouldn't abuse his powers, and he's pretty well known, so if he would be a person to abuse his powers, it would've been brought up already. Neutral (4/0) Sysops

  1. Honestly, I can't see Blemo as admin material, really. Sure, he's a friendly guy and such, but I'll remain neutral for now. Sorry, Blemo. =[ -- ChurchReborn 04:19, 7 April 2008 (UTC)
  2. Due to issues that have happened in the past with moderation, and considering that this is the most needed field of expertise right now, I feel Blemo's lack of moderator experience on, for example, the IRC channel makes me unable to support him. This may be changed with evidence of moderation experience. This is not a vote of opposition because Blemo is a good, contributing member of the community and I'm sure that such issues can be overcome as needed. --forgottenlord 18:14, 7 April 2008 (UTC)
Moderator experience? How so? --File:Lieutenant General.jpg Blemo Progress Wheel TALK CONTRIBUTIONSEMAILMESSAGE 19:06, 7 April 2008 (UTC)
Having to make unpopular decisions based upon what is necessary, acting in an unbiased and logical manner, recognizing and acting against infractions of the rules set, etc. I do not believe such experience can be provided from Halopedia unless you are an administrator or moderator, but a parallel position in another community would be acceptable as a substitute. I have, in the past, recommended RfA candidates be given moderator status on #halopedia to better gauge their abilities to moderate and I believe in one case (CT) this actually did happen. --forgottenlord 21:18, 7 April 2008 (UTC)
  3. I dunno. Blemo's an alright guy, but I don't really see him as an "Administrator".Bllasae
  4. Honestly, I was going to give you a weak oppose until you recited back to me the IRC commands I taught you and used them effectively. Sorry man, RR's points are far too strong for me to vote for support at the moment. Once again, I apologize. --Kwarsh File:Gruntiness.jpeg[Talk to me!] - [Stuff I've done!] 01:03, 8 April 2008 (UTC)
  5. I support Blemo, count him as a friend, and see him going far if he was granted the Admin mantle, but i think that, even if we need a new Administrator to replace GPT, There are too many RfA's for this time. When i have a solid, reasonable answer, i will revoke this statement. Your comrade, k4karnage MA5C ICWS Assault Rifle Talk Channel | Achivements 23:13, 8 April 2008 (UTC)
  6. Hey Blemo, I know you have been a great friend in the past, and I greatly appreciate your help I have recieved. I support you, but I have to agree with RR saying you need more time. Against (3/1) Sysop

Oppose Oppose - I haven't seen any demonstration of good technical and/or article-editing skills from Blemo yet, and as Forgottenlord says, I'll need to quantify his moderator capabilities on the IRC channel. I would recommend putting him on the fast-track for a trial operatorship so I can evaluate him in that respect. However, my most weighing objection is about article editing. Blemo, if you have time, I should also talk to you privately to evaluate you further. Regards, RelentlessRecusant 'o the Halopedia Team GDI2.jpg TALKMESSAGE 20:44, 7 April 2008 (UTC)

I understand completely what you mean by "no article-editing skills lately". As you can well see with the new skin and points structure, a large majority of users don't really seem to care about editing articles as much anymore, even if they are veteran users. I have been editing many UNSC articles a long time ago before the skin, and received many promotions in the UoH and awards, such as your prestigious Relentless Honor. It was partially my idea to take action on the part of users not editing anymore in Blog:The new Halopedia. And by "technical skills", do you mean my experience with HTML and Wikia coding? I've been using those a lot lately and I must admit I haven't used them recently except for my userpage. Aside from all that, I would love to arrange a meet. --General Blemo Progress Wheel TALK CONTRIBUTIONSEMAILMESSAGE 03:15, 8 April 2008 (UTC)
Blah-blah-blah. I removed some parts from my last entry to state what I wanted to say. :P --General Blemo Progress Wheel TALK CONTRIBUTIONSEMAILMESSAGE 04:44, 8 April 2008 (UTC)

Oppose Oppose Ok, I feel stupid changing my vote again, but I have to agree with RR. Yeah, he's a friendly, popular guy with a nice attitude and almost everyone, if not everyone, admires, but I don't think he's ready to be an admin quite yet. He's got quite a few edits, yes, but just doesn't strike me as an admin material. I'm not trying to be the bad guy here, but I just feel like you need to be a bit more mature and be able to learn how to handle more responibility then he has so far. Honestly, I think the only reason he has as many votes as he does is becaue of his popularity. ChurchReborn 04:22, 10 April 2008 (UTC)

Oppose Oppose Sorry Blemo, I'm going to have to agree with both RR and CR on this one. Perhaps some other day my opinion will change, but I'm going to have to say no. -- Kwarshinator-(contact)-(contribs)-(edit count) 00:50, 11 April 2008 (UTC)

Oppose Oppose -- Blemo, you're a great user and everything. Thing is, is that you technically can't even have an RfA, as you were banned. Sorry. -- Sgt.johnsonGeneral-gr1 02:49, 11 April 2008 (UTC)

Consider the fact that we desperately need more admins, and that half the blog posts around the place are saying so, it's not that surprising. Someone will need to go through periodically and check that each voter has a) 50 edits and b) has edited prior to 2008. -- Manticore (talk) 02:02, 8 April 2008 (UTC)
Er....doesn't voting got only a 1-month requirement for eligibility? --forgottenlord 04:32, 8 April 2008 (UTC)
We've always imposed a three month requirement for RfA's. I think it's especially important now, where newer users are too absorbed in the new social tools to have had a chance to experience the wiki and our community properly. -- Manticore (talk) 06:12, 8 April 2008 (UTC)
The three month requirement was imposed on candidates, not voting. I know for a fact that this was not the case on Ryan's RfA given the fact that I was actually permitted to vote on it back in August while AJ's vote was removed because he hadn't been there for a sufficiently long time. I think, but I can't remember, that my vote on CT's entry may also have been before the three months were up. At no point was my or any other vote that likewise was over one month and under three months contested by you or any other admin for all forms of voting - including RfAs - while I was a part of the community. --forgottenlord 16:47, 8 April 2008 (UTC)

Me and the other Administrators do. File:CommanderTony Logo.PNGGeneral Tony, Administrator of HalopediaTalk 4/08/2008
Well, I think that the admins pick whether or not pass an RfA. Community votes don't count as much, as the decision lies with the administration anyway. --General Blemo Progress Wheel TALK CONTRIBUTIONSEMAILMESSAGE 23:51, 8 April 2008 (UTC)
  • To user:Ghost sangheili: I noticed that you scratched out 4 voters either for "not having over 50 edits" or did not sign. First off, three of them had over 50 edits, but did not record so during the skin change. Try using Special:Editcount, next time. ^_^ Secondly, if someone doesn't sign, it doesn't mean it isn't a vote. You should try looking in the History page to try and identify the voter. ^^ --General Blemo Progress Wheel TALK CONTRIBUTIONSEMAILMESSAGE 00:09, 9 April 2008 (UTC)

Talk about this somewhere else, no good whining about it, you deserve it, admins are sensible men!MasterChiefPettyOfficerSpartan Contribution 10:20, 12 April 2008 (UTC)
He was talking aboutwhy he think one banning shouldn't of counted against Blemo, he wasn't whining. And, btw, in my opinion some the admins aren't sensible, although that is probably because we have had some scuffles over many things in the past, we have a general dislike of the others' way of doing things, and we usually think the other is wrong. In all honesty, I like all the admins as people, but not some as admins. Just my opinion thar. --General JWR470px-Odst 1 The Company|Campaigns|Enlist! 18:16, 20 April 2008 (UTC)

Questions

Nominee, if you accept the nomination, please answer the following questions. It is advised that voters check the nominee's responses before voting.

  1. When did you join Halopedia?
March 19th, 2007, between the times of 9:40 AM to 12:21 PM.
  2. What do you believe are your most valued contributions to Halopedia?
My edits for UNSC articles, work on templates, assistance for others.
  3. What do you believe are your most valued technical contributions to Halopedia?
I've helped adjust any errors on templates, as well as creating them. I am very familiar with HTML and Wikia coding and I also helped many users create their own awards and user boxes, as RR says in the ON volume of May 20, 2007, and my my user page being proof of this. I also have over 339 edits on templates.
  4. What do you believe are your most valued contributions to the community?
Well, my edits for the UNSC-related characters, vehicles, etc. articles. I have helped out a variety of users throughout my time here, some of them already MIA, such as coding and help on editing. I also help newer users with my FAQ. I admit that I haven't been as on-task with the article-editing as I used to be, but I will return to it when I have time.
  5. What is your expertise with programming languages, if any?
As per Question 3. I’ve helped out on creating several templates, and I have some minor experience with MediaWiki:monobook.css. I will be more than happy to learn any more coding tricks, if any.
  6. Do you administrate any other Wikia? If so, which?
I co-founded and administer the Ghost Recon Wiki and adopted the “Bourne Again” Wiki. I was an admin during the Army of Two Wiki, but was later removed because of my lack of knowledge and inactiveness there.
  7. If you are administrated, what changes do you propose?
I will enforce the peace on Halopedia and prevent any vandals from ever touching an article, delete any polls, quizzes, or blogs with profanity, personal offenses, etc., and possibly draft any new policies.
  8. To the best of your understanding, what does administratorship entail?
I feel that an administrator must be a fair and just role-model others. He/she must be able to help out for others, and sadly must also ban them if they are unconstructive and harmful to the community. And lastly, they must have open opinions.
  9. To the best of your understanding, when will you be able to check Halopedia after you are administrated, in the event that you are?
Every single day or minute I get my hands on a computer.
  10. What communities are you associated with online, Halo and otherwise?
Well, my main community would be Halopedia. I also participate in other Wikias, Bungie.net, YouTube, and a few others.
  11. What is your familiarity with the Halo universe?
I own all three games, every book written with the words, “Halo”, on it, several action figures, and I am looking forward in getting any future Halo merchandise..
  12. What is your familiarity with Wikia and Halopedia policies?
I’ve learned many of their policies either by GPT (special thanks to him) or by reading many of Wikia and Halopedia policies.
  13. What is your relationship with the Halopedia community and current administration?
I log onto the IRC daily and XBL with members.
  14. How may users contact you?
Well, there are several ways to contact me.
  • I am located here
  • I have an email address, which is "spartan_104@verizon.net".
  • I can be reached on the IRC, typically on #halopedia.
  • Gamertag: Blemo 23 on XBL
