High Charity, also known as, Raas Kkhotskha, is a planet in the Paramount+ series, Halo. It is the central command location for the species called the Covenant. Its location is largely unknown, with the UNSC actively looking to locate the planet.
Overview[]
Based on analysis of Covenant battle network (cf. "proselytization relay") traffic and network organization, the mobile capital-ship designated HIGH CHARITY is the central logistical and strategic coordination node in the alien armada. The facility was believed to be outside of human-charted space until 2540, when it was first sight above the glassed colony of Harvest. BASEARROW long-range sensor scans have provided first-order estimates of size and mass, but no detail assessments of accompanying fleet forces or station armament has been possible at this time. Locating and assessing this facility is a priority task for the Office of Naval Intelligence.[1]
History[]
Many years ago, the Covenant began searching for artifacts that fill their religious requirements so they can ascend to a place of higher understanding where they would be treated as gods. High Charity became their holy place amongst in the Covenant, the place where their high council, their abducted Blessed One, and majority of their species resided. The Blessed One, Makee, learned that one of these sacred artifacts was on Madrigal and dispatched Covenant Elites to excavate the keystone.[2]
When they failed, they reported their findings of a second Blessed One to Makee, who joined the high council in their sacred room. She swore to the prophets that she would bring back both the keystones[3] and the Demons head. She soon left High Charity on a Covenant Gladius ship.[4]
After becoming a refugee of the UNSC,[5] Makee shared that she had been abducted by the Covenant as a child and heard rumors of their holy planet. She tells Master Chief that it's allegedly in the Aspero star system. Captain Jacob Keyes of the UNSC turned his full forces into finding the planet in the star system, but found no signs of sustainable planets. Makee insisted this was the location, despite the UNSC's failure to locate it or anything similar.[6]
She betrayed John and the UNSC when she stole the keystone[7] and escaped in a Gladius ship. She returned to High Charity where she handed over the artifact and prepared for the ritual.
Meanwhile, Master Chief, Parangosky, and Miranda attempted to locate the planet, as Master Chief believed that Makee hadn't lied about everything. He recalled the Covenant's prophecy - the Halo is meant to be revealed with the stars sparkle like glass. He believes it's a clue and asks Cortana about the gravitational field strength in the Aspero system. There are several fields as Aspero is an unstable system, surrounded by an artificial dynamical network of cosmic strings. The gravitational lensing from the strings warps and scatters the light coming from within the system, creating a kaleidoscopic effect. From their point of view, a plant would appear as fragments - or shards of glass. The Silver Team heads on a mission to human's first incursion into Covenant controlled space.
The trip there is rocky the seam has competing gravitational fields that scatters all available light. He has to steer along the critical point. They are almost "spaghettified" by the atmosphere surrounding High Charity, only narrowly surviving. arrive with a stealth plan to a nearly vacant area. As they advance to the holy temple, their cover is eventually blown, triggering thousands of Covenant forces to emerge from their hiding places inside the mountain itself. Their hiding made them undetectable to Cortana. The covenant attack in waves of hundreds.
An intense battle ensues and Silver Team is quickly overwhelmed. John sees Makee from afar, but faces an onslaught of attacks from the best of the Covenant. Makee makes contact with the now-assembled keystones to save John from the ambush. She succeeds as the blast knocks the Covenant to the ground and they proceed to kneel to watch the event unfold. A constellation begins to project above the temple. Makee and John are rendered unconscious and taken to the Halo. Kai kills Makee to free John from the Halo, though he has to choose between the Spartans and the artifact. He ultimately lets Cortana take control and she expertly kills hundreds of Shangheili forces, saves the Spartans, and procures the artifact without activating it. The group narrowly escapes as the High Council shouts in protest.[8]
