Microsoft 2012 Logo

The current logo, introduced on August 23, 2012 to symbolize the "world of digital motion" and Microsoft's "diverse portfolio of products."

Microsoft Corporation is an American international computer technology company. It develops, manufactures, licenses, and supports a wide range of software products for computing devices. Headquartered in Redmond, Washington, USA, its most popular products are the Microsoft Windows operating system and the Microsoft Office suite of productivity software, each of which has achieved near-ubiquity in the desktop computer market. Microsoft possesses footholds in other markets, with assets such as the MSNBC cable television network, the MSN Internet portal, and the Microsoft Encarta multimedia encyclopedia. The company also markets both computer hardware products such as the Microsoft mouse as well as home entertainment products such as the Xbox, Xbox 360, Xbox One, Kinect, and MSN TV.

Microsoft was the parent company of Bungie LLC (who claimed independence from Microsoft in 2007). They collaborated on five Halo projects: Halo: Combat Evolved, Halo 2, Halo 3, Halo 3: ODST, and Halo: Reach. Microsoft also collaborated with Gearbox Software and Hired Gun on the PC ports of Halo: Combat Evolved and Halo 2, respectively. Microsoft is also the parent company of Wingnut Interactive. It was also the parent company of Ensemble Studios, who was shuttered in 2009 after the release of Halo Wars (post-launch support of the game was handled by Robot Entertainment, a studio formed by many ex-Ensemble employees). Its internal team, 343 Industries, is responsible for creating new properties for the Halo franchise, for which Microsoft owns.
