We clear the Covenant and return this station to ONI.
— John-117 to Blue Team[3]

Operation: BIRD IN HAND was a UNSC operation to reclaim the UNSC Argent Moon.[2]

In March 2557, Argent Moon went dark. In October 2558, the UNSC Argent Moon was occupied by the Covenant. The UNSC promptly sent Blue Team in to retrieve sensitive data, still in the facility.[3]

Early Resistance[]

After navigating through an asteroid field surrounding Argent Moon, Blue Team entered the facility.[3]

During the fighting, a Hunter knocked John-117 down into a crevice. Within this crevice, he learned of an impending attack on Meridian, from an old friend.[3]

He then meets back with Blue Team to fight through the rest of the facility.[3]

Fleet Arrival[]

“Surrendering Argent Moon to the Covenant is not an option.”

While traversing the rest of the facility, Blue Team discovers an entire Covenant Fleet exiting Slipspace. With this, they decide to not try secure the data, but instead to destroy the facility.[3]

Blue Team then confronted a Mgalekgolo pair. Following that, they proceeded to overload the reactor to the station. They couldn't recall their insertion Pelican, so instead they chose to use the station's docked prowler. They managed to board it and escape from the exploding station.[3]

Following their escape, Blue Team were declared AWOL as they went to Meridian. Blue Team's arrival at Meridian would conicide with the Battle of Meridian. Fireteam Osiris would be assigned to Blue Team's retrieval.[4]
