Owen Uduike, aka Owen-B092 was a SPARTAN-III Program's super soldier who fought in the Battle of Meridian (2548).

History

Owen's was birthdate was the 12 April 2530, presumably on the planet of Jericho VII. He became orphaned after his parents were killed when the Covenant glassed it. He was found by ONI agents eating bugs in the countryside, and evacuated and recruited, or volunteered, for the Spartan-III project, entering in Beta Company. He was already in active service in 2548, as one of them.[1]

First missions

The first missions of Owen are unknown, but he served with team Anchor in several worlds, and once mentioned to have participated in a recon mission to his glassed homeworld, Jericho VII. As then he used a Mjolnir Armor, must have survived to several fights.[2]

Battle of Meridian

During the Battle of Meridian, when the Covenant forces attacked Meridian, UNSC fleet managed to contain them for several days... except for a single Corvette, which managed to get through their lines and land on the planet, in a little city named Brume-sur-Mer. Owen's team of SPARTAN-III was sent to assist. However, their dropship crashed, and Owen became separated from the others. The SPARTAN fought alone during all a day, killing at least several Grunts and a Hunter. When he was to engage the second Hunter, this one was attacked by two young boys, a girl, Saskia and a boy, Victor. Owen managed to save them and kill the Hunter, but not before he was wounded in a leg.[3]

After killing the Hunter, Owen escorted the kids to their hiding place, the girl's house, which was a real fortress. There were waiting two other survivors, a boy, Dorian, and another girl, Evie. Before entering, Saskia insisted in attending Owen's wound, but he insisted to do it outside the house. She covered the wound with biofoam, greatly helping the Spartan. Once inside, Owen knew all the survivors: they have been trapped outside the emergency shelter when the Covenant landed, and inside was most, if not all, the town's population. Owen attempted to evacuate the teens from the town, but the task proved to be impossible: the Covenant forces had put an energy shield around Brume-sur-mer; they were trapped.[4]

After returning to Saskia's home, Owen accepted to let the teens fight the Covenant, as some of they wanted. He trained them in stealth and recon tactics, giving them captured Covenant weapons, and the five began their campaign. During their explorations, the teens seen that the Covenant were drilling in the ground, but far of the shelter, and also uncovered an old, but operative, Insurrectionist starship. Soon, they began attacking the invaders, destroying the digging machine, a Locust, and causing them some losses. Right after, the shelter began flooding, so the team make a plan to broke the shield and evacuate the locals with the starship. Owen lead a distraction attack, with three of the kids, but an Unggoy grenade hurt him seriously. He ordered the teen to leave him behind, but they refused and finally managed to carry him in a van.[5]

Despite the fact that Owen barely could walk, when they arrived to the starship's hangar, he posed as a human shields to protect the teen pilot while they board the ship, being wounded again. When the survivors reached an UNSC ship in space, Owen was almost dead, but the doctors managed to save him. Day later, now wearing an UNSC military uniform, meet with the teens, already healed, in a gathering in which the four teens were recruited by the ONI to act as a recon team in the Meridian's campaign.[6]

Return to Meridian

Owen returned at Meridian's fight in an unknown data, before three months since he was evacuated. His MJOLNIR armor received some class of upgrade, including, at least, an Photoreactive panel's device. The SPARTAN's destiny was, again, Brume-sur-mer, probably for his previous knowledge of the place.[7] The UNSC unit was mainly composed of Meridian's militiamen, with a few UNSC marines, under Commander Marechal's orders. Owen's paper was to act as ONI liaison and heavy hitter.[8] After three months of the evacuation, the ONI send again the four youngsters at Brume-sur-Mer, after having been intensely trained by ONI. Due to the heavy Covenant's fleet presence, their dropship was attacked and the four were forced to land in Drop Pods. Owen was the one which awaited them on the ground and bring them to the milita's encampment.[9] The four kids, nom dubbed Local Team, work wasn't to fight, but to scout and lead the others militia teams. The UNSC's objective was to recover the Forerunner's artifact before the Covenant forces. After proving their superior knowledge to the other soldiers, Owen ordered them the hardest part of the first mission: to blow the new Covenant's digging machine: now, an Scarab, while the other teams launch diversionary's attacks.[10]

Owen lead the Local Team in the mission, and they succeeded, returning to their encampment without casualties.[11] The next morning, the encampment was attacked by a ground and air Covenant force: Owen and most of the militiamen fought them to win time to the others to escape. They succeeded again, but the militia took several casualties.[12] After regrouping and mounting a new encampent, Owen informed all the survivors of their superior's orders: they will be evacuated off planet... but only after retrieving the Artifact.[13] The retrieval attempt was a frontal assault lead by Owen.[14] They failed and sustained heavy casualties, but Local Team, which had convinced the SPARTAN to let them launch a recon mission of the tunnels, succeeded, ignoring the previous orders.[15] The youngsters survived all, but seventy percent of the militia was killed in the attack.[16] However, UNSC said them they cannot evacuate them off planet due to the heavy space fighting. But they sent them a cargo ship to retrieve them... with a new mission: to travel to Annecy, an important city in the other side off planet, to retrieve a second artifact.[17] The militia's forces were attacked by a massive Covenant force in the way to the rendezvous place. Marechal was killed, but Owen survived, despite having being forced to engage a group of Brutes and Sangheilis alone. He was the last one evacuated.[18]

Annecy

Annecy, despite the official words of Owen, had been razed by the Covenant months prior to Brume-sur-Mer's attack. The kids were furious to ONI's lies, but all, except for Victor, assisted the SPARTAN to made a recon to the city's ruins in a Warthog. They found Covenant's forces digging the Artifact, but were attacked and forced to flee.[19] Despite being separated of Owen, all survived and regrouped at the base camp. The second attempt of Local Team and Owen succeded: they breached an energy field and get inside the Artifact. The Forerunner Structure affected somehow the youngsters, but not Owen.[20] After convincing Victor to join the third attempt, all survivors engaged the Covenant to retrieve the key parts of the Artifact.[21] Once again, they succeeded, but at a heavy price: Victor was severely wounded in a fire, and evacuated barely alive. After reaching the orbit, Owen assisted at a gathering with the unharmed youngsters, where ONI's commander tell them than the Artifact had changed ther bodies, and the only way to save Victor and the others was to make them SPARTANS.[22]

Post War

In an unknown date after the end of the Human-Covenant war, after the SPARTAN-II Linda recovered Gabriela, an AI filled with historical data, two SPARTANs were tasked to escort the AI to Earth, at the museum Outpost Discovery. One of these was Owen, which still weard his blue MJOLNIR's armor, alongside Hazel-A302.[23] But his posting was brief, as soon was assigned to fight the Banished threat.[3]

Physical Description

Owen's armor was described as of dark blue color. His face was boyish, with dark, shrouded eyes of a teenager, and an angry red scar on his left cheek.[24]

Notes

  • There is some discepancy about Owen's native world: he said it was Jericho VII, but the 2nd edition of Halo Enciclopedia said it was Eremus.[3]
