A portable computer is a personal computer that can easily be transported from one location to another, similar to a modern day Laptop computer. Humanity has multiple types of portable computers:
- Data Pad - A PDA-like device commonly used by members of the UNSC.
- TACPAD - A military PDA device similar to the data pad.
- Chatter - The civilian equivalent, modeled more on a mobile phone.

- During 2552, Dr. Halsey used a laptop, a version of an older form of a Portable Computer while on Onyx in the Sentinel manufacturing facility to store a small underdeveloped smart AI named Jerrod.[1]
- On several Portable Computers in the Halo Series, one can see two keys adjacent to the spacebar that resemble the "Apple Logo" keys used on Macintosh computers.
- In Halo 3, if a player watches the screen of the Personal Computers on various multiplayer maps, one can see flashes of the AI Cortana, like on many of the Halo 3 release trailers.
- Benjamin Giraud is known to use a portable computer.
