Rampancy.net, originally known as The Core when it was launched on May 26, 1999, is one of the most popular fansites for the Halo series and was credited in Halo 3 for being one of the "Biggest Community Supporters." It was originally maintained by two webmasters, Ferrex and Noctavis.[1]
The website hosts for all Bungie and even some Bungie-related games, like games from spinoff studios like Wideload and Certain Affinity. For the Halo series, it provides a database of user-created forged maps as well as a database of fan-transcribed sheet music. It also hosts the in-depth Halo Impressions series that provides commentary on the games level by level, and Anger Sadness & Envy, the Rampancy Podcast, which has been inactive for about a year.
As one of the first fansites to follow Bungie and the Halo franchise before all the hype, Bungie has been kind enough to give special mention to Rampancy and its community in its game credits and manuals in each of the three Halo games. In addition, during the development of Halo: Combat Evolved, the original incarnation of the "Weekly Update" was actually a feature that appeared not at Bungie.net but was rotated amongst a circle of fansites, one of them is Rampancy.net
