Cashless?[]
How do we know Earth has become a 'cashless society'? I believe someone has put down a bit of fanon as it clearly known about the UNSC credit and even that lady that you can follow during H3: ODST still has cash. XW3 AR3 L3GION 01:22, May 4, 2010 (UTC)
Not to mention the Audio Log that is an ATM constantly spitting out cash or how “Dirt” has the soldiers stealing gold bars from a safe. I personally would be very worried about the idea of a computer based cash system, as somebody skilled enough could possibly hack it and wreck the whole economy with counterfeiting, but that’s just a tangent. Is it confirmed?Tuckerscreator 02:02, May 4, 2010 (UTC)
- It might have been a guess based on the ILB axons, but it's not true even in ILB. Kamal tries to cash out poker chips. --Dragonclaws(talk) 02:07, May 4, 2010 (UTC)
Hmm, going off of your example, perhaps the “cashless” thing is meant more like a receipt sort of thing, since that’s how they used to use paper money back in the olden days, as receipts, so I think that article should be changed. I personally think that a purely computer-run finance system is definitely a bad idea, but that’s just me.Tuckerscreator 02:35, May 4, 2010 (UTC)
- I always assumed the machine was gushing "chips", perhaps like those used to represent actual cash in a game of poker. I don't have evidence for this, but since the UNcR has never been seen or comment to be hard cash, I don't think we can say one way or another. There are definite advantages to having hard cash - it can't be hacked, diverted, or bugged electronically, and it is more difficult to track.
- On the other hand, humanity circa 2552 may simply have returned to the gold standard, explaining the gold in "Dirt", or it may have been a regional currency and economy system unique to the planet. Not all European nations are on the euro yet, as just an example. -- Specops306 Autocrat Qur'a 'Morhek 06:22, October 5, 2010 (UTC)
