- “Here it is. Home to ever misfit, reprobate, outlaw, and renegade in the galaxy. No law. No police. No government. No responsibility. Rubble is haven for people who don't fit anywhere else. I'm talking a whole other deal, man. Mystics.”— Soren, explaining The Rubble to John and Kwan in Unbound
The Rubble is an unauthorized colony planet in the Paramount+ series, Halo: The Television Series. It is an illegal, ungoverned, lawless, yet potentially peaceful colony near Madrigal. It is a substantial point of support for Insurrection ideologies.
Overview[]
An unauthorized habitat based around an occupied Xedon Industrial Cluster in orbit at the Hesiod L5 point. The facility is closely tied to the nearby colony of Madrigal for deuterium fuel and volatiles, but has no formal relationship with the warlords of that world. ONI (Office of Naval Intelligence) analysis indicates the location is a major transshipment point for unauthorized slipspace transports, pirate activity, and smuggling in Sectors One and Three. Intercepted comms-traffic indicates substantial support for Insurrection ideologies.[2]
History[]
22 years ago, Soren defected from the Spartan Program and went into hiding from the UNSC. He eventually found his way to The Rubble where he became a vital leader of the people, with the residents referring to him as "the boss". He settled down on The Rubble, got married, and had a son. Master Chief arrived on the planet while AWOL from the UNSC with Madrigal refugee Kwan Ha and a mysterious artifact, seeking answers about both. He reunites with Soren who takes him to his home through a series of tunnels and sophisticated rigging. There, Chief meets Soren's wife Laela and their son Kessler. The next day, they visit the refuge quarters to speak with a Covenant abducted survivor, Reth, who is also mentally fragile. John learns about the artifact and accidentally activates it again while in the cell. He learns the artifact is a potential weapon and decides to return to the UNSC as they can help destroy it. He leaves Kwan in the care of Soren and his wife Laela.[3]
