Halo: Reach is, while it follows a particular protagonist, the story of the fall of Reach. Noble 6 is not at all the main point of the game, he doesn't even have a developed personality. The game is about the events on Reach.
To show the battle from a different prespective, to show how cortana was delievered to the Master Chief, and to show the actual Fall of Reach. Just because Noble Six dies doesn't mean that the game shouldn't have been made. It was a great game and has a lot of reasons to why it should have been made.
