I've been an active part of the Halo fan community since Summer of 2006. In addition to posting at Bungie.net (under the same username I go by here) and HBO (under the username Gravemind), I'm also the author of the nearly 40,000-word long "Open Letter" article comparing Halo 1 to Halo 2 that I posted online in September 2006. I also maintain a blog at 1up, where I post mainly about Halo. I've been coming here for some months now. I used to edit anonymously before creating an actual user account.
Why I'm Here
As a fan of the Halo series, I'm glad that a place like this exists. Sure, there's other websites that have a lot of Halo-related info, but nothing that catalogs everything in an encyclopedic manner. However, being a wiki, it has the same disadvantages as places like Wikipedia. Within the tubes that comprise the interwebs, there exist not only vandals, trolls, people with bad attitudes, and other assorted social misfits, but also people who mean well, but nonetheless have flaws that make them unsuited for the task of editing a wiki, in particular atrocious spelling and grammar. Numerous pages here at Halopedia are poorly constructed and riddled with typos, run-on sentences, improper punctuation and capitalization, poor writing style, and so forth. A couple of small mistakes per page is fine, and can easily be fixed once noticed, but having dozens of prominent mistakes is totally unacceptable. Another common problem is information that is improperly sourced or simply factually inaccurate or incorrect.
Since there apparently isn't a large enough user base to ensure proper quality control (a few dozen good editors vs. hundreds of bad editors), I figured I'd do something to help out around here. I'm very particular when it comes to proper spelling, grammar, etc., and I'm very insistent on places like this having a professional appearance (i.e. proper, formal style and structure). As for my knowledge of the Halo franchise, my area of expertise is the gameplay mechanics of the Halo games, particularly in regards to the weapons. I've also been editing Wikipedia for a while, so I'm familiar with how things work in a wiki. Hopefully my experience and knowledge will come in handy here, and I look foward to helping Halopedia be the best it can be. I'll be contributing as often as possible, which for me means I might get around to editing an article or two once every day or so depending on how much free time I have. If you have any comments or questions, feel free to leave something on my profile's talk page, and I'll reply ASAP.
