Gimme an answer

Enough with giving me links to conversations that have little to do with my question. Please give me a straight answer to why my chart was deleted. Iceman117 01:45, October 13, 2010 (UTC)

*sigh* Refer to Tgor's comment: "Reach doesn't go past WO 3. We can't assume that modern rank is canon."
We don't know if the UNSC ever adopted the entire military system of the US military. All we know is that they are Chief Warrant Officer and Warrant Officers. Only two out of the five ranks are used and it is unknown if the UNSC actually use all five ranks in their military. As such, the chart is deleted.- 5əb'7aŋk(7alk) 12:38, October 13, 2010 (UTC)
So they copied over the entire US ranking system except CWO4 and MCWO5? Unlikely, if you ask me. Iceman117 01:06, October 15, 2010 (UTC)

Small easter egg - article or trivia?

There's a small easter egg in Reach: when using the default "binocular" (not scopes), the lower-left corner has a binary code that translates as "Dave", a reference to Dave Candland. Does this deserves its own article, or should it only be stated in the trivia section? Just asking. Kronos101 23:46, October 13, 2010 (UTC)

Need a bit of assistance

Hello Subtank! I could use some assistance regarding categories. I've been making a wiki for Halo Stunting for over a year now, and I've just started categorizing things, and I've been running into a few technical difficulties. It's rather hard to explain, so here's my best attempt:

I have created a system for organizing stunts, based off of the system used for species of animals and plants. (You know, kingdom, phylum, class, order, family, genus, species.) This is how it works:

Game: [ie: Halo (PC), Halo 2, Halo 3, etc.]
Type of Play: [ie: Campaign, Multiplayer, Forge, etc.]
Map: [ie: Pillar of Autumn, Valhalla, Blood Gulch, Rat Race, etc.]
Type: [ie: Inside, Launch, Location, Balance, Ledge, etc.]
Subtype: [ie: Vehicle Inside, Explosion Launch, Master Chief Location, Wall Ledge, etc.]
Stunt: [ie: Uber Shade, No Weapons, Top of Beam Tower, Tank Side Balance, etc.]

Now the problem is that I want people to be able to view stunts that fall under more than one of the categories. Like Balances on Blood Gulch, or Master Chief Locations on Valhalla, or Launches on Campaign in Halo (PC). Now the problem is introduced. There needs to be a listing for campaign stunts in Halo (PC), campaign stunts in Halo 2, and campaign stunts in Halo 3. That would mean campaign would need to be a subcategory for all Halo (PC), Halo 2, and Halo 3. Then there's multiplayer stunts for all of them, that's already 9 categories now, then you add in types and subtypes as categories, and you get my point... Because each category has multiple subcategories and those subcategories have multiple subcategories that all need to be displayed in each subcategory this just isn't feasible, it'd require the creation of over a thousand categories by my estimates. So my question is: is there some way I can take a Category, say, Campaign Stunts, and add it as a subcategory to Halo (PC), Halo 2, and Halo 3, and make it so that, when it is selected as a subcategory from each of those pages (Halo (PC), Halo 2, and Halo 3), it will only display the articles that are in it and the category for the game? In other words, I add an article, say, Uber Shade, to the following categories: Stunts, Halo (PC), Multiplayer, Gephyrophobia, Insides, Vehicle Insides. And I add another article, say, Ghost Shroom (Blood Gulch), to the following categories: Stunts, Halo (PC), Multiplayer, Blood Gulch, Insides, Vehicle Insides. That I can then go to the category Gephyrophobia, and select the subcategory Vehicle Insides in it and be shown ONLY Uber Shade because it is a Vehicle Inside on Gephyrophobia, and not Ghost Shroom (Blood Gulch) because it is a Vehicle inside on Blood Gulch.

Sorry for the long confusing message, hopefully you know what I mean and know about some sort of solution. Thanks!

RE: RE: Need a bit of assistance

Dang. I really want to be able to do this, it'd make things so much easier, and comprehensive. So I can't like, make a script or some-thingamajig that finds articles that are in TWO categories, or something like that? Blagh! What to do now I wonderz. ':/ And it's ok that you weren't able to provide some direct solution that I was looking for, but maybe you could supply some sort of alternative that wouldn't require the creation of 1000 categories? Maybe? Oh and, what do you think of the Halo Stunting Wiki? And while I'm asking that, do you think that it could be mentioned somewhere here on Halopedia, and linked too, or perhaps in some other way connected with the rest of the Halo world, because I don't know how many more articles I want to create all by myself. Matortheeternal 21:35, October 17, 2010 (UTC)

Edit: Also, I don't understand why people do this on the talk pages, as in: I post something on your talk page and you respond on my talk page. Other than the fact that you get a message saying "you have new messages" it just split things up, don'tcha think? Meh. I'm just being nit-picky. Matortheeternal 21:37, October 17, 2010 (UTC)
I'll just respond here then. :P
To be really honest, I don't think I would be any helpful as to providing assistance to your problem. I simply don't have enough data that would make me able to understand how you want it to be... that and the huge possibility that I might screw up the template. If anything, DavidJCobb is your only user who could construct such complicated template using available resources. If complexity is the only thing blocking your achievement, he's your answer.
Regarding making your wiki more welcomed and known globally, I think you can add your link in this wiki. I'm sure the administration team wouldn't mind. Make sure to add them under a header titled "External link".- 5əb'7aŋk(7alk) 21:43, October 17, 2010 (UTC)
So where exactly can I link? Just in any article that I feel has any relevance to the wiki? Alas, that would be every single glitching related article regarding Halo: Combat Evolved or Halo (PC), specifically. And that would also lead to the creation of many articles here on halopedia that would be duplicates of articles on the halo stunting wiki, which doesn't seem to be very productive if you ask me. IMO, the best possible arrangement would be a complete movement of glitch/stunt/trick related articles from Halopedia to the halo stunting wiki - but I'm well aware that that is unlikely and probably far too much to ask at this early stage. However, on that subject, how do you think I should go about getting people to help contribute to the Halo Stunting Wiki, Subtank? I haven't had many contributors, and I've had to do just about everything myself. I think that having something here on Halopedia will probably help my traffic a bit, but I wish there were more ways for me to promote it. Anywho, here's an unrelated question I have that I'm going to ask you because I don't know who else to ask: The default skin/CSS on my wiki just recently changed to the new theme, Wikia.css, without me specifically telling it to. Where/how would I go about changing it back to Monaco.css?
Matortheeternal 03:27, October 23, 2010 (UTC)
Didn't you hear? The community has moved to a new domain. If you still insist on increasing traffic in your wiki, ask one of the administrator to add more notice in the articles. Oh, the new skin is the replacement of Monaco; there is no way to change back to Monaco as the skin will be removed permanently as of November 3rd.- 5əb'7aŋk(7alk) 22:38, October 23, 2010 (UTC)

Page Deletion

How do I delete a user created page of the format User:XYZ/ABC?

"Fate of this wiki"

Hi Subtank. I saw the forum thread you made, and I wanted to bring up a couple things that concern me.

"This wiki, I'm sorry to say, is a dead wiki."

A look at recent changes says otherwise. I know there is more editing happening at the forked wiki, but this wiki is far from "dead" by any interpretation. I don't see how proclaiming the wiki to be dead is helpful or productive.

"Some articles will stay, some will be deleted."

I would strongly discourage the deletion of any main namespace articles that are not spam/vandalism. Doing so would be a disservice to the remaining and future community of the wiki.

"Because canon articles are likely to be less maintained and more likely to be vandalised or having fan-made info in them, it has been suggested that the contents to be summarised in a concise manner and a link that redirects the reader to Halopedian for all their canon needs."

Suggested by who? Suggested where? Regardless, advertising a competing Halo wiki on content articles is against Wikia's Terms of Use and would not be allowed.

With all that said, I know that you are an established, productive, and helpful wiki admin here on Wikia from the great work you've done at Dead Space Wiki. I know that the Gaming Team (and perhaps me personally, if I remember correctly) have worked with you there. I am happy and willing to help you and the current wiki community in any way I can, if you want. For example, I can design a new background image, and if the community decides to change the name of the wiki from Halopedia to something else, I can design a new logo. Or you could have a friendly contest where people submit their background images and let the community vote on which one they like the best. Anyway, let me know if you want my help. JoePlay@fandom (talk) 18:42, January 6, 2011 (UTC)

Firstly, please don't take things out of context. I've kept the forum thread simple and straight-forward.
When I said, "this wiki is a dead wiki", I'm referring from an encyclopaedic point of view. Note that I said, "this wiki is no longer Halopedia as it was once known in the past. Halopedia is the identity of a Halo community that migrated from 2004 to 2006 to 2010. With majority of the Halopedia community gone, it is almost impossible to maintain the wiki with the amount of articles it has right now." By no doubt, this wiki is alive and kicking from the community point of view but not as an encyclopaedia anymore. It is no longer Halopedia. It has devolved. Activities related to the canon Halo encyclopaedia has dropped drastically and would die in several weeks/months. However, there is a compensation plan to counter this if you've paid close attention to the forum thread.
Regarding "some articles will stay, some will stay deleted", again... refer to the whole paragraph... Important articles such as John-117, Halo: CE, Halo 2, and Halo: Reach would stay as they are the ones that gather traffic for the wiki, whereas articles of less significance such as List of Animals, Buckman, and Untitled Halo MMO would be removed or redirected to another article. I've done the research and not simply making wild claims... there is a compensation plan for the deletion, if you haven't paid close attention to the forum thread...
For the third point regarding "Suggested by who? Suggested where?", that was the summarised conclusion made by the entire Halopedia community after discussing it via the IRC. If possible, it is best to transform this wiki into a community-based Halo wiki than a encyclopaedic-based Halo wiki as the latter restricts content only to canon information while the former provides a greater freedom of information. This would not only benefit Wikia (who would gain more traffic, users and content) but also to (benefiting canon info). As for "advertising a competing Halo wiki", all I have to say is "read the forum thread again". The solutions to all these problems Wikia keeps reminding users of have been provided.
Secondly, allow me to explain what I had in mind for this wiki in greater detail than the forum. Excuse the repetition. The Halo franchise thrives because of its community, a group of hardcore Halo fans that would spend hours and days dedicated to the series. This ranged not only from discussion of canon info, but also to map-making, fan-fiction, machinima and much more (See for more). Now, Halopedia, as you should know, only restricts content to canon info. Without rejecting the fact that the Halopedia community has moved on to a new site (after the move, a much smaller community exist with a total of 2-10 users. That is a huge decrease of dedicated users! The evidence is the user responses made to the forum thread), this wiki has become much more of a dead wiki. What I had in mind is to improve this wiki and make it popular but under a different identity. The Halo Nation is what I've planned to do and to succeed. If you're still wondering what Halo Nations is and how it could benefit Wikia and still be within ToU, simply refer to this Project page.
Lastly, I already created the designs intended for this wiki if it ever manages to become Halo Nation wiki. The specifics can be seen in the previous link. Everything has been planned and kept in standby-mode. All that is needed is a consensus from the community and Wikia. I've done my research months before the issue of moving of Wikia becomes a problem. ;)
Oh, how are you? Had a nice holiday? :) - 5əb'7aŋk(7alk) 20:56, January 6, 2011 (UTC)

level templates

i would like to ask if you either are able to give me permission or talk to someone who can, in order to allow me to edit the list of levels template. i have been trying to update all pages related to the newly announced Defiant map pack, but i have been frustrated by the fact that i can only add the existing template to the pages for the new maps but not edit the templates so that the new maps are included.

if you could get back to me soon about this i would really apreciate it,

New Page Attempt

Hey Subtank. I tried to make a specific page for the Suicide Grunts since they are a specific class but every time I tried to save the page it said that there was already a page with that title. So far the only thing I have seen with that title is an area on the Unggoy page. Do you know why it is doing this

I read on an Index page that this wiki is going to become a social wiki rather than an encyclopedia. I was wondering what that means exactly? It seems that this wiki is larger, and more interesting, than Halopedia. So I was wondering the reason for this migration and if the edits made to this wiki will be transfered to to Halopedia? If not, I was wondering how, or if, I could transfer my account and all its details to Halopedia.—This unsigned comment is made by Jedijam91 (talkcontribs) . Please sign your posts with ~~~~!
